We would like to take you on a journey through the world of "vector borne diseases" (VBDs) in horses. These diseases are caused by parasitic, bacterial or viral pathogens and are transmitted by blood-sucking arthropods (e. g. ticks and mosquitoes). These infectious agents are becoming increasingly important, partly due to the import of horses from abroad, international and national travelling and changes in climatic conditions.
